Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a type of treatment in which a trained and certified medical professional manipulates the soft tissues of your body, muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin – using varying degrees of pressure and movement. Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in British Columbia are trained to: evaluate your health needs; provide an assessment of your specific soft tissue or musculoskeletal condition; predict the likelihood and/or timeline of your recovery; provide active (intense) or passive (gentle) on hands therapy; and through research provide evidence based patient education and remedial exercises. In British Columbia, massage therapists are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia (CMTBC) to provide massage therapy services. Most are also part of the Massage Therapy Association of British Columbia (MTABC).

Osteopathy

Manual Osteopathy aims to restore optimal function in the body. It is a hands-on therapy treatment method that looks at the way the body functions as whole, rather than viewing its parts or symptoms separately. By positively affecting and balancing the nervous system, which is in close relationship with all of the other systems of the body, manual osteopathy can be very helpful in the resolution of many conditions. Osteopathic techniques include:

1) cranial osteopathy – addresses the vitality and mobility of the dural membranes and cerebrospinal fluid which nourish and protect the brain and spinal cord and influence nutrient exchange at a cellular level throughout the entire body.

2) myofascial and connective tissue therapy – treats restrictions of the muscles, fascia, and connective tissues, normalizing these important structural tissues.

3) osteo-articular corrections – gentle manipulation of joints which relieve restriction and restore proper motion.

4) visceral manipulation – gentle but direct work to the organs and viscera and their ligamentous/ fascial attachments to relieve pain and improve function.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of thin needles into specific sites on the body called Acu-points that benefit the body to return to its natural healthy functions. Practitioners in Ancient China discovered the body contains channels that usually pass through the head to toe that pertain to a specific organ. After consulting with the patient, the practitioner will be able concur which points he needs to use depending on the state of the patients qi, blood, body fluids, yin and yang. Naturally, our bodies will function in a healthy state. Sleep, diet, and healthy habits can all stray us away from our health if we under nourish or over indulge. Acupuncture stimulates the bodies natural qi, and slowly starts to regulate bodily functions. Patients are left feeling revitalized, relaxed and back to “normal”.
